A Day on Site for an inspection in the UK

We headed out to our customer site and got straight into our RAMS and safety checks when we arrived. Once we put on our PPE, hair nets, overalls, safety boots, and the whole lot, we made our way through the factory to look at the spiral cooler.
The cooler had been cleaned recently, but it still needed a much deeper clean overall. Some areas on the belt and rails hadn’t been fully reached, mainly because there’s no second‑floor access, which makes it tough for the customer to clean everything properly.
The drum and take‑up not lining up correctly, which created a slight “Christmas tree” effect and caused the belt to run too tightly. The good news is that during this inspection, the alignment was noticeably better than before, showing clear improvement on the customer’s side, but it’s still important to keep an eye on it because even small misalignments can lead to long‑term wear. All the emergency stops worked as they should, and the enclosure itself looked safe and up to standard.
The chain path was jittering slightly because the drum isn’t perfectly circular, which means the chain isn’t gripping smoothly. This is something that will need a closer look, as it could lead to long‑term wear. The control panel was also slow to restart after hitting the stops, so that may need attention as well.
We checked the retention time on the screen, which showed 35 minutes, but we measured around 33. The belt will also need about 1.6 to 1.8 metres added to get it to the right length. Glide strips weren’t clearly visible because of residue, which explains the sticking on the belt. A proper deep clean every couple of months would make a big difference.
Overall, the cooler is running much better than before, especially since the over‑oiling issues have been sorted. But to get it performing at its best, it needs more consistent cleaning, a closer look at the chain and drum, and some attention to the control panel speed. Once those parts are tightened up, the system should run smoothly, efficiently, and with far less wear.
